Astronz Object of the Week: NGC 6752

NGC 6752 (or Caldwell 93) is nicknamed the Great Peacock Cluster as it is found in the constellation of Pavo.

It is the 4th brightest globular cluster visible in the night sky. This dense cluster of mainly old stars lies about 13,000 light years away.

To view the Great Peacock Cluster, in the mid-evening look towards the southwest where you will see the curl of the scorpion's tail. High above that is a bright star called 'Peacock'. This is the brightest star in Pavo. About 10° to the bottom left of this you will find NGC 6752.
It is visible in binoculars but a larger aperture telescope will resolve out the cluster.
