Overview
The QHY5III462 camera uses the Sixth Generation Sony 2.1 megapixel IMX462 STARVIS CMOS sensor. The pixel size is 2.9um making it the same size and resolution as the sensor used in the QHY5III290 camera that has been so successfully used for planetary imaging by some of the best planetary imagers in the world. Like other cameras in the 5III series, the QHY5III462 is USB 3.0 powered and controlled. No additional power is required.
The IMX462 sensor is back-illuminated and incorporates new technology that gives it some significant advantage over other planetary cameras: First, the IMX462 sensor has sHCG (Super High Conversion Gain) for very low read noise at high gain. This is ideal for stacking hundreds or thousands of short planetary images. Second, it is exceptionally sensitive in the NIR.
In this latest generation of sensors, the photodiode portion of the pixel well is physically deeper than in previous Sony BSI sensors, allowing photons of longer wavelength to penetrate deeper into the substrate. This dramatically increases the sensor’s sensitivity to red and near infrared (NIR) light. The RGB filters over the pixels become transparent at NIR wavelengths, so the sensor displays almost equal peak sensitivity to NIR light as it does to light in the visible spectrum.
The peak QE in the NIR around 800nm is as high as the peak QE in the visible wavelengths. For planetary imagers using a methane filter that passes light around 880nm this is welcome news.

SUPERB NIR RESPONSE: The QHY5III462C uses Sony's latest generation IMX462 back-illuminated sensor with extended red and near infrared response. It has nearly double the red and NIR sensitivity as previous generation BSI sensors and even greater sensitivity compared to front illuminated sensors.
SUPER HIGH CONVERSION GAIN: Sony's new sHCG (Super High Conversion Gain) technology produces a higher voltage from fewer photons resulting in greater sensitivity even at very low levels of light.
HIGH FRAME RATE: The QHY5III462C will output 135 frames per second at full resolution, making it perfect for planetary imaging.
FILTERS FOR VISIBLE AND IR IMAGING: The QHY5III462C comes with two free 1.25-inch filters: the IR850 filter and the UV/IR filter.
Let customers speak for us
from 111 reviewsYeah, not bad at all. Nice crisp and clear and far more ergonomic on my dobsonian than a straight through. Price is on point, well worth it.

I bought a barlow lense and it's perfect for telescope viewing. Customer service was great too. Would highly recommend.

Excellent help and advice

Arrived quickly and was well packed. In perfect order. Easy to read, and easy to use. Makes finding stars homes very simple.

I bought the UHC Filter and picked up the order from Astronz office. I spent some time at the office and with Andrew. It was a delightful time to share our experience. I used the filter for several nights for observation. I took photos with my smartphone with the filter; the result is impressive, though not professional.

I screwed the T-Ring T2 to a 55mm M42 extension tube on my telescope. Then I attached my Canon EOS 800D to the bayonet end and noted a rather loose fit. I used the small allen key supplied with the adapter to loosen the three grub screws on the adapter. Firmed up the loosness fit and re-tightened the grub screws. Very satisfied with the quality.

Very good product and good service delivering it promptly.

Very happy with binoculars, great service, and excellent advice

A well made, versatile and useful accessory for 1.25 inch eyepieces. When using small telescopes without a prism or diagonal, there is sometimes not enough focus travel, this extension tube adds to the focus.

This adaptor works well with an iPhone 16 max pro. It’s easy to fit the phone and get it into an eye piece.
It’s a good way to determine what is and isn’t possible with an iPhone camera.
Steady hands with a 12” Dob can capture the Orion cluster. Open star clusters are also great targets.

Very happy with our new binoculars and great service from Astronz

A great product that is easily charged via usb-c.

I purchased the 8” Astronz Dobsonian and it’s been amazing! First use I was in awe of Jupiter and moons, Saturn, Orion Nebula, Matariki, things I’d never seen apart from pictures. Andrew was super helpful. It’s really easy to setup and use, really good quality, so much to discover!

I have set it up on my sky tracker and tripod, ready to try but due to busy work and no clear sky in the last couple of week I had no opportunity tu use it. Can you ask for my feedback a bit later please. I gave 5 stars for excellent service and support by Astronz
